SURGICAL ABORTION
AN IN-OFFICE PROCEDURE OPTION UNDER FLORIDA LAW, UP TO 6 WEEKS
When medical abortion isn’t appropriate or you prefer a surgical approach, a surgical abortion is a safe option in a controlled clinical setting. At Miami Women’s Center, we provide surgical abortions within the legal window, with patient comfort, safety, and dignity guiding every step.
FLORIDA LEGAL CONTEXT
As of May 1, 2024, Florida law prohibits most abortions after 6 weeks of gestation, calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period.
This restriction applies to both medical and surgical abortion methods. Exceptions may exist in narrow circumstances, such as to save the life of the pregnant person, for fatal fetal anomalies, or if the pregnancy results from rape, incest, or human trafficking (with proper documentation) under certain conditions.
WHAT TO EXPECT
WHO QUALIFIES?
You may qualify for a surgical abortion if:
-
You are within the legally allowed gestational age (up to 6 weeks under Florida’s law)
-
You have had an ultrasound confirming an intrauterine pregnancy
-
You have no contraindications (such as certain uterine anomalies, bleeding disorders, or medical conditions)
-
You are able to attend all required clinic visits (pre-procedure, procedure day, follow-up)
If you are beyond the 6-week limit, we can discuss whether an exception applies based on your medical or personal circumstances, or refer you to alternate options if possible.
